Black and racialized professors are routinely victimized by the tenure and promotion process in Canadian academe. Particularly for Black, Indigenous, female and racialized professors that transcend 'contingent' employment, denial of tenure and/or promotion imposes significant costs to their well-being, interpersonal relationships and relationships with colleagues. Despite equity gains within collective agreements and university administrations, it remains an unsatisfactory state of affairs for racialized professors and even worse for Black and Indigenous female professors. This panel examines the politics of antiblackracism, tenure and promotion as a cite of inequity and how it may be addressed.
