The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's calls to action include calls for the Government of Canada as well as churches and other faith groups to repudiate concepts such as the Doctrine of Discovery and terra nullius that have justified European colonization of Indigenous lands. While these concepts have a long history of development, ultimately their origins can be traced to biblical conquest stories. This Presidential Address of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies reflects on the possibility of decolonizing these stories as Canada works towards reconciliation.

Speakers: Christine Mitchell, Professor of Hebrew Scriptures, St. Andrew’s College, University of Saskatchewan
